Cast members are “not here to make friends”

If there’s any question that contestants from different reality TV shows across networks and sub-genres often come from the same mold, this hysterical three-minute collection of clips, compiled by FourFour, should provide the definitive answer:

Many of the clips are from recent seasons of shows, so it’s probably a safe bet that mining the (hundreds of?) thousands of hours of reality programming from the last eight years would reveal even more examples.

A couple of the more self-aware contestants point out that saying “I’m not here to make friends” is cliche, but so many people say it so adamantly that there’s probably something much more interesting going on here, something that raises some intriguing questions. Are they delusional? Is it possible to not connect to other people during such an experience? Or is this just how people convince themselves that it’s okay to treat others like shit?
